Imlil to Ouirgane Valley - 2 Days

Berber Valley Trek

Travel from Marrakech through many little hamlets and Berber villages to the magnificent Western High Atlas Mountains. Trek past the villages of Imlil, Arghen and M'zzik overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of fruit trees and vegetables.

Get over Tiz M'zzik Mountain pass (2450m) and descend through juniper trees down to Tizi Oussem village for the night .

On day 2, you trek down to the Assif Azzaden Valley, passing through several Berber hamlets.....

Day 01: Marrakech - Imlil - Tizi Oussem - Ait Aissa
Trek from Imlil valley to Id Aissa on a five hour walk which takes you over Tizi M'zzik Mountain pass 2540m and down into the spectacular valley of Azzaden, spend night in village of Id Aissa (gite).

Day 02: Ait Aissan - Azerfsane - Ouirgane
A downhill walk leading through the nature reserve protecting the barbary sheep. Lunch will be served at a stop off en route to Tassa Ouirgane, another hour and half after that and you will arrive in the centre of Ouirgane travelling through olive groves and many Berber villages.

For Atlas Trekking you need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Please do not leave any rubbish behind you; carry out what you carry in.

Atlas Treks are tailored to match the season and your level of fitness. You have the choice of basing yourself in Berber Guesthouses, from where you can take daily walks, or you can Atlas Mule Trek for 2+ days. On mule treks you usually have the choice of staying in Berber Guesthouse/with families or wild camping in 2-person tents. In addition to regular packing, here is a Check List for Atlas Trekking:
